Why we spent 6 months developing AI for the Learning & Development community

In the fast-paced world of education, creating tailored learning experiences for diverse groups of learners has always been a challenge. As a university lecturer, the founder of a data science school, and a corporate training developer, I’ve grappled with the daunting task of preparing high-quality training materials that cater to the individual needs of my students, spanning various sectors, levels, and geographies. But the quest for efficiency often led to recycling materials; deep down I knew there had to be a more effective way to serve our learners.

Incredible Large Language Model (LLM) Advancements

Then came the breakthrough: the latest 2023 large language models (LLMs), a game-changer in the field of artificial intelligence. My early experiments with ChatGPT revealed its incredible power, and I saw the potential for a revolution in the education and training sector. I realized its potential to revolutionize the training industry, potentially saving millions of dollars. I then discovered something mind-blowingly powerful; integration of ChatGPT into my Google Sheets! This opened new doors, enabling me to create highly personalized learning content at huge scale.

My background in digital marketing and business development gave me knowledge of segmentation and customized messaging. Little did I know that my little experiments were in fact simple ‘AI Agents’, created using the concept of Chain Prompting. At the same time, the global open-source coding community was busy developing LangChain, a Python code framework that I would bet my house will transform the way we work and live over the next two years.

Things were going well so we expanded out team and we dived into rigorous testing with real customers. The results were nothing short of amazing. This led us to really focus on developing the technology to a public ready standard.
